How to make a paper fortune teller
Also called a cootie catcher. Eight folds and you can tell anyone's future.
Fold it
- Start with a square sheet of paper.
- Fold it in half diagonally both ways, then unfold, so you have an X of creases.
- Fold all four corners in to meet at the center.
- Turn it over.
- Fold the four new corners in to the center again.
- Fold it in half, then unfold and fold it in half the other way.
- Slide your thumbs and first fingers under the four outer flaps and push them together to pop it into shape.
- Write a color on each outer flap, a number on each of the eight inner triangles, and a fortune under each inner flap.
Play it
Ask a friend to pick a color, then open and close the fortune teller once for each letter as you spell it (P-I-N-K is four). They pick one of the numbers they can see, you count that many, then they pick a number again. Lift that flap and read the fortune.
Do Not Read has a fortune-teller fold: your friend picks a color, it counts it out, and the note is hiding under one of the numbers.
No paper handy? Pass one in iMessage instead.
Do Not Read lets you write a note, fold it as a triangle, pull tab or square, and pass it to a friend in Messages. They pull the tab to unfold it. Free on iPhone.
